The Municipality of New Lucena is set to bring energy, camaraderie, and athletic excellence to the community with the 3rd Cry of Jelicuon Badminton Tournament 2025. Scheduled on October 11–12 and 18–19, 2025, the tournament will take place at the New Lucena Municipal Auditorium on Sollesta Street, in partnership with the New Lucena Racquetmasters.

This year’s tournament is more than just a sporting event—it serves as a meaningful tribute to the Cry of Jelicuon, a historic moment that symbolizes the courage and patriotism of the town’s forefathers in their fight for freedom. By aligning the badminton tournament with this commemoration, the municipality celebrates not only physical skill and teamwork but also the enduring legacy of bravery that inspires today’s generation.

Fostering Unity and Sportsmanship

With an expected turnout of over 100 participants, the tournament aims to bring together players from all walks of life—elementary pupils, secondary students, and adult athletes. This inclusive approach encourages youth engagement in sports, supports physical fitness, and strengthens community bonds through healthy competition.

The event will feature three major divisions

    •             Elementary (12 & below): Boys/Girls Singles and Doubles
    •             Secondary (17 & below): Boys/Girls Singles and Doubles
    •             Seniors (18 & above): Men’s and Women’s Doubles

Each category will follow the BWF (Badminton World Federation) rules with a double-elimination format and best-of-three sets to 21 points.

Recognizing Talent and Effort

Beyond medals, the tournament offers substantial cash prizes for champions and runners-up, ranging from ₱1,000 to ₱3,500 per category. These rewards reflect the municipality’s commitment to recognizing and nurturing local talent, with hopes of discovering potential athletes for future municipal and provincial representation.
