The Municipality of New Lucena, Iloilo proudly commemorated the 127th Philippine Independence Day with a vibrant and meaningful flag-raising ceremony held at the municipal grounds. Despite the looming threat of rainfall, the spirit of patriotism and unity shone brighter than ever, as the event pushed through with great enthusiasm and dignity.

Municipal officials, Punong Barangays, representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), LGU regular employees, and job order hires gathered early in the morning, all dressed in modern Filipiniana for women and classic Barong Tagalog for men. The elegant attire added color, grace, and national pride to the solemn but festive occasion.

The ceremony was organized and spearheaded by the Municipal Tourism Office, led by Mrs. Catherine Pueyo, designated Municipal Tourism Officer, who made sure the event highlighted both tradition and creativity. From the flag-raising itself to the special performances that followed, the morning celebration was truly one for the books.

Vice Mayor Isabelo Accolador, who is currently acting as Mayor, gave a stirring and heartfelt message. In his speech, he reminded everyone of the true essence of Independence Day. He passionately stated, "May your attendance is not just for compliance, reels, or Facebook posts, kundi nagahalin gid sa tagipusuon." His message struck a chord with the audience, reminding everyone to carry national pride not just on this day, but in every act of public service and citizenship.

A beautiful highlight of the program was the spoken poetry performance entitled “Nagtataka Sila,” written and delivered by Sangguniang Bayan Member Erwin Sustento. The powerful piece reflected one's loyalty and love for their country.

Capping off the celebration was an emotional musical performance by the Kalayaan Band — a talented group composed of LGU employees. They performed two deeply patriotic songs, “Malaya Ka Na, Pilipino” and “Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi,” which moved many in the crowd and captured the joy and solemnity of the day.

While the skies above New Lucena were cloudy, the atmosphere on the ground was full of color, warmth, and national pride. This year’s Independence Day celebration was more than just a ceremonial gathering—it was a meaningful reminder of the freedom we enjoy today and the shared responsibility to preserve it for the generations to come.

The flag, proudly displayed on the municipal grounds, symbolizes the hopes and unwavering commitment of every Lucenanhon—to remain united, proud, and free. Happy 127th Independence Day, Pilipinas!
