Celebrating Milestones in Women’s Rights

The 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) marks a pivotal year for gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Philippines. This year commemorates significant milestones, reinforcing the country’s commitment to inclusive development:  

- 50th anniversary of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW)

- 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA)

- 45 years since the Philippines signed the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) 

- Three decades of the Gender and Development (GAD) budget policy under the 1995 General Appropriations Act (RA 7845)  

- Completion of the 30-year Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development (PPGD)  

        These milestones emphasize the nation’s progress in advancing women’s rights, promoting gender equality, and ensuring equitable opportunities for all women.  

Theme for 2025: "Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas" 

        The 2025 Women’s Month theme, "Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas," highlights the importance of empowering women across all sectors. This aligns with the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710), ensuring:  

  • Equal rights and opportunities for all women  
  • Gender-inclusive policies to bridge economic and social gaps  
  • Accessible resources and services for marginalized women  

        This year’s celebration also supports the administration’s vision for a Bagong Pilipinas, where women are free from gender biases, discrimination, and economic limitations.  

A Call for Inclusive Progress and Sustainable Change

The 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration aims to turn policies into action, ensuring that gender equality efforts translate into real, impactful changes in women’s lives. A multi-sectoral approach will be taken, engaging:  

  • Government agencies and LGUs to strengthen legal frameworks  
  • Non-government organizations (NGOs) and CSOs to advocate for gender equity  
  • Communities and private sectors to create sustainable opportunities for women  

The celebration also highlights the crucial role of men as allies, fostering an inclusive society that supports equal rights for women.
